Please note: the following instructions are for Spring 2016. Summer 2016 first-day instructions will be sent to accepted students.
Reporting Time and Place
All classes take place at our Cyber Technologies Research Lab (CTRL) at the Livermore Valley Open Campus (LVOC) on the east side of Sandia National Laboratories.
During the school year, the CTA holds its classes from 4 - 6 p.m.
For Spring 2016, we will begin orientation at 4pm on the 1st class session. This is a mandatory orientation session. Please plan to arrive by 3:30 pm so you have time to:
- Pick up your badge from the badge office (you must have your badge before you can enter the CTRL)
- Find the CTRL and take a seat
Attendance at the safety and security briefing is required. Students who fail to show up to the briefing will forfeit their seat in class to those on the waiting list. Exceptions will be considered on a case-by-case basis only if the CTA is notified in advance.
Note: We anticipate a line for badging, so please do arrive as close to 3:30 as possible, if not earlier. When the badging finishes, we will begin the briefing.
Items to Bring with You
To pick up your badge, you will need to bring a valid driver's license, U.S. passport, California ID card, or current high school photo ID card. If you can't produce one of these form of identification, you will not be able to get a badge.
CTA classes cover a lot of material very quickly. Students who miss a class will find it very hard to catch up. We ask that our students please plan to attend every class. If you need to miss one, please consider contacting your instructor for information about the material covered in case it is something you can review at home. Catching up will not be possible in all cases.
During the school year, the CTA holds its classes from 4 - 6 p.m. Our class schedule will vary depending on the course and material, but classes will generally consist of about an hour of instruction and an hour of hands-on lab time. The hands-on lab time gives you a chance to try out the lessons learned in realistic environment or can be used for a self-directed project. The instructor will spend time with students individually or in teams answering questions and giving advice.
While you are at Sandia, we ask that you follow these important rules:
- You may not take photos, videos, or audio recordings.
- You may not plug personal electronics into Sandia computers. This means no transferring files via flash drives, bringing in your own mouse/keyboard, or doing anything else that involves electronics touching. Please let us know what you need to do, and we will help you do it safely and securely.
- Observe posted speed limits.
- Sandia is a tobacco free campus. No tobacco products of any kind are allowed.
- Please silence your cell phones during class. Vibrate mode is fine.
CTRL is located off of the intersection of East Avenue and Greenville Road in Livermore, south of I-580, see the Google Map. When using Google Maps, you can search for the address "7999 East Ave Livermore CA" to find the turnoff to our site.
Note: There is currently no public transit to our site on the Greenville Road side and we are unable to provide transportation service.
Traveling South on Greenville Road
When driving south on Greenville Road, turn right onto East Avenue to enter Sandia. You will pass two driveways for Lawrence Livermore Lab before you see East Avenue, which is just before a large hill See Greenville Road driving South.
Traveling North on Greenville Road
When driving north on Greenville Road, turn left onto East Avenue to enter Sandia. East Avenue is the first left after a large hill, and if you see turnoffs for Lawrence Livermore Lab, you’ve gone too far. See Greenville Road driving North.
Once you've turned onto East Avenue, follow the road, and after it curves to the left, you’ll see a parking lot on your right.
